Amir Khan

This immensely talented Piscean was born to film producer Tahir Hussain on March 14, 1965 in Mumbai. With a lot of family within the film industry, Aamir was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Nevertheless he has had his share of struggle. He started his career as a child artist in the films Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973), Madhosh (1974) andHoli (1984). Then came his major break as an actor Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) where he was paired with Juhi Chawla. This film established him as a romantic hero and he became a teen hero, but his marriage with Reena was kept a secret, which eventually broke a lot of hearts later. Though it did not hamper his popularity as an a actor.

Then came a whole lot of movies one after the other which proved Aamirs mettle as a fine actor which include - Dil (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992) , Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Rangeela (1995),Raja Hindustani (1996), Ishq (1997), Ghulam (1998) and Sarfarosh(1999).

Known for his methodical approach in playing his characters, Aamir prefers to do one film at a time and makes his character in the film as believable as possible. He has acted in almost every genre of films with diverse roles. His performance in Earth (1998) as the Ice-Candy man has received rave reviews from Indian and International critics. A perfectionist that he is, he refuses to accept awards by trade magazines like Filmfare. In 2001 Aamir played the character of Sameer in Farhan Akhtars Dil Chahta Hai which got great appalause from his fans.

In 2001 he turned to producing and his first production was the period epic Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India in which he also starred. It was one of the biggest hits of 2001 and was nominated for many awards including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. After a gap of three years Aamir returned with yet another epicMangal Pandey: The Rising. This also did well but not like Lagaan. 2006 saw Aamir khan in two films: Kunal Kohlis Fanaah with Kajol and Rakyesh Om Prakash's Rang De Basanti, which was one of the highest grossing films of 2006 and has also been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

He is one of the very few complete actors in the Indian Film Industry. Aamir has publicly expressed support for two major people's struggles in the country: the Narmada Bachao Andolan and the struggle for justice in Bhopal and never stepped back despite facing the wrath of people. He has two sons from his ex wife Reena Dutt, with whom he got divorced in 2002. He married Kiran Rao in December 2005, who had been an assistant to director Ashutosh Gowariker during the filming of Lagaan.
